Judith Dauler Schattenfield Celebration of Life

Judith Dauler Schattenfield, loving matriarch of the Schattenfield-McFadden family, died peacefully at her home in Potomac, MD on January 24th, 2022. At heart, Judy was an adventurer. Born on July 26th, 1938 in Pittsburgh PA and raised in Irwin PA, Judy left for NYC to work for NBC News not long after graduating high school. NYC embraced Judy as much as Judy embraced NYC. Judy had a part-time career as a hand model, played the tambourine with Tommy James and the Shondells, and was rumored to have been a cheerleader for the New York Titans football team, who became the New York Jets in 1963. Pursuing her career in communications, Judy's travels took her `to NBC News in Cleveland OH, and then to Greensburg PA where Judy met Thomas Schattenfield, a communications attorney from Washington, DC. They married on June 11, 1971, upon which Judy realized her true calling as a matriarch, taking command of a household of six young children, which soon grew to seven. While raising her family, Judy traveled the world. Three recurrences of cancer did not stop her from seeing the Pyramids, the Eiffel Tower, or touring the castles of Germany while taking a cruise down the Rhine. Judy is survived by seven children; Scott (Cynthia), Peter (Brigitte), M Thomas, Michael McFadden, John (Christine), Catherine (Pete), and Kristin (Abraham), as well as ten grandchildren, Leah, Sarah, Scottie, Cory, Madison, Sierra, Joe, Elias, Scarlett, and Gideon. Judy’s compassionate and loving spirit continues to enrich the world, as Judy willed her body to medical science. Judy was accepted into a program at Walter Reed where she is helping train surgeons to save lives of military personnel. The following organizations were near and dear to Judy’s heart, and mourners are invited to make donations in Judy’s memory.
